The Scientific Eye - Part Two.

Previously on "The Scientific Eye" our discussion was on Metals, examples of metals and the properties of metals.

Today we will talk about "Non-Metals, examples of non-metals and their properties.

What are Non-Metals?

Non- Metals are materials that have dull surfaces when new and can easily break. In others words, anything that is NOT a metal is a non-metal.

Examples of Non-Metals are:

            Plastic cups,

            Glass cups,

            Books,

            Pencils,

            Balls,

            Bags,

            Dresses, etc.

Properties of Non-Metals:

            Non-Metals are insulators.

This means they are bad conductors of heat and electricity.

Non- Metals have dull surfaces when new therefore, they do not reflect light.

Solid non-metals can break easily into smaller particles.

            Non- Metals are not malleable.

This means that they cannot be beaten into shape.

            Non-Metals are not ductile.

This means they cannot be stretched into thin wires.

            Non-Metals do not rust.
